Thoughts

Thinking of you all. Gilbert was a wonderful man. I worked for him my very first job with my brothers and sister. He was always very kind, patient, funny and caring. Taught me how to make burgers, faggots and sausages and will remember cleaning the block and endless washing up! I also have amazing memories of the youth club, the old fashioned games we all loved and the tournaments! He gave up so much free time and was so very kind. You will be missed, we will never forget you. X

I started working for Gilbert just before I was 13 and continued there for the next few years. I loved the job, but did not realise then how lucky I was to have such kind bosses and to be able to work with family and friends. I have good memories of eating sweets, washing up, making sausages etc, serving customers and having a laugh oh and scrubbing that wooden block down. I even did some babysitting for family a few times and helped out at a few events - dressing up once or twice too. Gilbert was such a big part of childhood - youth clubs, mission impossible takes and medicine balls. We were all really lucky to have known him. Thank you for helping make my childhood fun and for my start into employment a really positive one. Ramsbury was a great place to grow up because of people/characters like you. Thank you x I have just had an operation so am afraid I can not travel, but I will be thinking of you all on Friday and I will always smile when I think of Gilbert. X

Gilbert was a big part of my teenage life, working at the butchers with my brother justin and sister Abbie, friends like Stuart Gillette, Joseph Payne and Prakash. Cycling that ancient bike around ramsbury each Saturday, meeting lovely people before graduating on to the butchers van….sorry about the one time we rallied it in our parents field! Many evenings helping Gilbert run the youth club and what a great place that was for so many…one of my favourite memories were me and Joseph running the bar in a marquee for his second wedding and being a crazy F1 fan like us we smuggled a secret tv under the bar that he frequently visited. A huge character that I’ve always held great affection for and I learnt a lot from. He is greatly missed, I’m so sorry I can’t make the funeral but with a very ill partner and four kids it’s hard to find time for anything. Thank you for the great memories and life lessons.
